The choice to move the site to the COS was based on, if your site is on the COS, you can use a subfolder (/blog) vs a subdomain (blog.website.com).

If you’re also considering hubspot, checkout the campaigns feature. When the website, blog, social media pushes, landing pages, call to actions are all in hubspot you can have full visibility of campaign performance — I really like this article but found the ‘hubspot may be too marketing focused’ out of alignment with performance marketing. Every single tactic must roll up to a larger strategy otherwise it’s easy to blog about whatever and waste time on things that do not move revenue for your business/a client. For that reason, we love the hubspot methodology and went all-in.

If you need database or advanced website themes, stay with wordpress. You can get a veyr custom, beautiful site using hubspot. When they first launched the COS it was lacking in every regard — they now have a staging server, SSL, and other features that are closing the gap but there still are many plugins that we miss that we’ve just had to learn to deal without.

Lastly, hire a SEO firm to help you make the migration. I don’t care what your experience is, use a reputable firm so you don’t tank in your rankings.

We’re redesigning our website in WordPress and using HubSpot on the marketing/CRM side. I’m struggling with which blog platform to use. I like the tight integration with the HubSpot platform, but know that sacrifices some of the features of the WordPress platform. If there’s an optimal way to merge the two, your recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve been doing technical SEO for 6 years. No one could help me and we couldn’t find any answers… we switched back to wordpress and we’re fine. I think biggest problem with the COS is that it’s hard to do advanced seo problem solving without things like yoast, etc. .. I’ve been using hubspot for 5 years… and I’m a huge fan… but for us, the COS was too early, too little and not advanced enough for us… the COS is faster to load for most websites vs wordpress, but if you know what you’re doing in wordpress, you can get a page to load in .3 seconds.

Word to the wise… if you’re going to change your cms, only change your cms… don’t ever change your cms, design, URL structure and content at the same time… that’s junior varsity stuff. Be careful and move slow… test and validate… don’t just “go all in”.

I’ve been considering switching, if nothing else for the piece of mind of not being dependent on tech geeks to get my sh*t updated in a timely manner, but I can’t lose the SEO juice of 7+ years by switching. I also like tweaking things on my site to improve it. That being said, I can see many businesses benefiting from the simplicity of HubSpot, which is why they are growing like they are!

You really have no real control of your site on the Hubspot platform, beyond what they give you, which really isn’t much.

The plugins and themes are amazing, and the ease of use allows for just about anyone to learn how to use it. . I started out with Blogger and then switched over to a self hosted WP a few months ago. I figured out how to do it without ringing the bell of a developer (if anybody needs it – here’s the tool http://goo.gl/8VAjSe).
