Grand Canyon (success)

At first, I was amused by the fact that we went to the Grand Canyon, and couldn't actually see it. It is exactly the kind of luck we have. But the further we drove trying to find a break in the fog, the more upset I got.

When we finally gave up, and turned around to leave, on the road back I shouted out in excitement; I was able to see the Grand Canyon through the trees! Unfortunately, there was nowhere with a shoulder where we could pull off, and it would have been rather muddy and unpleasant walking through the trees. The farther we drove from that area looking for a turn off point, the more anxious I became. Finally, we found the ONE turn off point where the Grand Canyon was visible.

It was extremely cold, windy, and still snow-raining. The short "fence" (two rows of bricks) was nerve-racking because of the crazy wind and the steep drop off in some areas.

Grand Canyon Fail

I have wanted to visit the Grand Canyon for a long time, so, I was really excited when I was finally able to go earlier this month. Somehow, in all my research, I missed that it costs $35 per car to enter Grand Canyon National Park. I didn't mind though, because I would finally get to see the Grand Canyon! Or so I thought?

When we woke up that day and it was cold and miserable (snow raining and very windy), I tried to keep myself upbeat by focusing on that would mean it would be less crowded. It didn't occur to me that the weather may mean that we wouldn't actually get to see the Grand Canyon.

Timmy didn't bring many warm clothes with him to Arizona since he was working out of Phoenix. I warned him about the weather near the Grand Canyon, but he was so focused on the highs in the forecast, that he missed how cold it was supposed to get (35° F).

The Grand Canyon was behind him under all that fog.

We drove for at least 30 minutes along the road parallel to the Grand Canyon to see if the weather was clearer anywhere.

Don't worry though! Eventually we found a break in the fog where we could see the Grand Canyon, and I took amazing photos like this. (Actual good photos coming in a seperate post.)

Arizona Trip

A few weeks ago I flew out to Arizona to visit Timmy on a work trip near Phoenix.

My view for most of the flight was flat and boring.

The view was quite different when we got closer to Arizona.

I did not get a good photo of the hotel Timmy was staying at, so, this view from the room will have to do.

I fell in love with a store called Attic Salt. It is a collection of things that will make you smile, like this adorable corgi purse.

The first weekend I was there, we made the trip out to the Grand Canyon. We stayed at the Best Western Premier Grand Canyon Squire Inn on Friday, and they had this cute mural waterfall.

Saturday we stayed in Williams, AZ which is about an hour from the Grand Canyon, so, that we could visit Bearizona. I will be sharing photos from the Grand Canyon and Bearizona in subsequent posts. The photo below is of Timmy trying on a cowboy hat in one of the stores in Williams.
