Pattern mixing for women

Wednesday I posted about Pattern mixing for men. Today I am sharing photo inspiration for pattern mixing for women.

As I mentioned in the Wednesday post, I feel that there are two keys to successful pattern mixing: 1) That one of the patterns is bolder than the other, and 2) The contrasting patterns have similar color schemes, or one of the patterns is in a neutral color scheme.

On with the inspiration!

Pattern mixing for men

Today one of my friends posted a photo of two dress shirt and tie combos that her husband came home with; she felt that since both the shirts and the ties had patterns that they clashed and couldn't be worn together.

Pattern mixing is on trend and looks incredible when done right; I love pattern mixing because it shows that the person is an adventurist and creative dresser. I don't believe in following fashion rules like "don't mix patterns" and "don't wear white after labor day"; I feel that almost any fashion rule can be broken and still look good if done right. That said, I have seen quite a few pattern mixing attempts that I think look terrible. Pattern mixing tends to be more successful when: 1) One of the patterns is bolder than the other, and 2) The contrasting patterns have similar colors, or one of the patterns is in a neutral color scheme.

Below are some suit pattern mixing that work. Tomorrow look for a blog post of female patterning mixing.

Religion's part in 9/11

This scene from the TV show "Bones" occurred when five of the interns were working together to try to solve the death of someone who died on 9/11.

As a side note, it is surprisingly time consuming making a meme like this from scratch (writing down all the dialogue, getting just the right screenshots, etc.).

Adorable peplum bow belted dress

At Carson's department store today (also called Younkers, Bon-Ton, etc.) I found myself drawn to a peplum dress. As you may (or most likely will not) remember, I am freaking tired of seeing peplums everywhere. I know why I was drawn to this dress though. It had the cutestttt little bow belt. The dress was $118 so there was no way I was buying it; not only am I cheap, but I'm practical and I know the dress is too fancy to get much wear from me. I decided to try it on though because it was just too cute.

This is Carson's website photo of the dress.

This is me wearing it in the dressing room. The one I tried on was a size too small which resulted in boob flattening and an unflattering tight skirt. Hopefully the next size up won't be too big since the dress is supposed to be quite fitted.

I was surprised by how good the dress made me feel. That said, there was still no way I spending $118 on it. When I got home I checked out Carson's web-site and saw that it was on sale for $88.50. While better than $118, there was no way I was spending $89 plus shipping on it either when I'll be lucky if I can find two occasions to wear it. Fortunately Carson's also had a promo code for 25% off on their homepage, and I found another promo code for free shipping! So, I ended up getting the dress for $66 (plus tax).

I still feel guilty spending that much on the dress without knowing if I will have more than one place to wear it, however, I know that the dress makes me feel good enough that I'd regret it if I did not buy it. I'm going to check back on their web-site through the week to see if they have any better sales for Black Friday or Cyber Monday (if they do, I can just buy the dress again, and return the first dress when it arrives).

Coheed and Cambria in Chicago February 9th

Coheed and Cambria is coming back to Chicago February 9th. They will be playing at the Congress Theater. The tickets go on sale at noon this Friday, however, presale tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10:00 am (I'm not sure which timezone the times are listed in as they didn't say, but I would guess PST).

This video below from their show at the House of Blues last year was by far one of my favorite concert moments. When everyone started singing along (four minutes and 16 seconds into this video), I got chills.
